Expressions of interest are sought from Registered Nurses to become part of a LINK NURSE TEAMbeing developed by the Hospices of Auckland and Poi (Palliative Outcomes Initiative)The term “Link Nurse” refers to nurses who are prepared to act as links between Specialist Palliativeservices/Generalist Palliative services, the staff and patients/residents of the clinical area where they work and each other. Link Nurses have been used historically to promote the concept of infection control, Quality Assurance and mental health nursing.
As a Link Nurse you would:
Be orientated to the Link Nurse Programme through an Orientation Workshop at your local
Hospice
Attend two days of shadowing one of our palliative care specialist nurses to gain a deeper
understanding of Hospice and palliative care services available
Be supported to attend Palliative Care Link Nurse Learning Labs every three months at your local
Hospice
Be supported within your work place through education, coaching and training by our Hospice
Poi MDT In-Reach Team, Specialist Palliative Care Community Team and Hospice Educators
Assist to develop and distribute resources in your place of work
Assist to make changes in your workplace that promotes best practice palliative care
Gain a greater understanding of the local palliative care network and the national standards for
palliative care
